What kind of pet dental supplies do I need to have at home for my cats and dog?
I have three cats and one dog, and I know that it's important to keep their teeth clean. I'm wondering what kind of pet dental supplies I need to have on hand to take good care of their teeth. It's getting way too expensive to take them all to get their teeth cleaned at the vet at one time, so it wouid be graet if I could space the visits out a little more.

A good toothbrush and toothpaste should do the trick. I would leave scraping plaque to the vet.

I agree. I would be scared that I would hurt my dog's mouth if I tried to do that. I think they usually put the animals under to do that anyway.

My vet recommended an enyzme toothpaste and finger toothbrush. He said the enzymes help clean the teeth the most, and the finger toothbrush is the easiest to use.

Bamboo makes a lot of good grooming stuff, and they have toothbrushes too. It's called the Quadbrush, and it has 2 brushes that get the front and back of the teeth at the same time.

Sometimes those toothbrushes are too big for cats or small dog's mouths. I have a teacup poodle, and I use a kid's toothbrush.

Biotene has a whle line of brushless toothcare stuff that you could try. It has a water additive, which seems like it would be easy to use for so many pets. I have three cats, and use it every day. One of them is 12, and doesn't have any teeth problems. Another thing is that i don't feed tham any foods or treats with sugar in them.

I use the drinking water additive every day, since the last time I got my cat's teeth cleaned, about 8 months ago, and I haven't noticed any build-up. It's a few dollars cheaper on this website than it is on Amazon btw.
Great comment Nicole! We agree, brushless formulas help keep teeth clean and gums healthy as well as take the hassle and stress of brushing. Thanks for the advice!

I just use a regular toothbrush, like for people, and KissAble toothpast from Cain and Able dog grooming products because it's all-natural.

As far as I know, brushing seems to be the best thing you can do at home. Here's a good rticle about it.

That is a good article. I adopted an adult dog who was not used to having her teeth brushed. I followed a lot of these steps, and now she's used to it, so it goes really fast.
