KMR Powder Milk Replacer is a complete food source for kittens. It can be fed to those who were rejected or orphaned, and can also be given to also who are nursing and require supplemental feeding. This formula is an industry standard, and closely matches the mother's milk in carbohydrates, fat, and protein. It is highly recommended for growing kittens and also adult cats who are stressed from being injured, are either pregnant or lactating, and need a source of highly digestible nutrients.
An important ingredient of KMR Powder is taurine, which is an amino acid when referring to feline diets. Taurine is an essential amino acid for cats, meaning that they cannot produce their own, unlike most other mammals. Because of this, it is essential for cats to injest adequate amounts of taurine on a regular basis through their diet. Taurine helps to protect against dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart dilates, causing its walls become thin and weak. This can result in a form of heart failure because the heart works less effectively. Prolonged taurine deficiencies can also cause central retinal degeneration, which sometimes results in blindness.

Directions For Mixing KMR Powder: For very young (less than 7 days old) or severely malnourished kittens, gerbils, racoons or badgers, mix one measure KMR with two measures of warm water. For older animals (7 to 10 days old with eyes open) mix two measures KMR with three measures of warm water.
Directions For Feeding KMR: All baby animals should receive their mother's milk for at least two days, if possible. This colostrum milk gives extra nutrition and temporary immunity against some diseases.
Warm reconstituted KMR to room or body temperature. Feed animals two tablespoons per four oz. of body weight daily. Small and/or weak animals should be fed every three to four hours. Larger and/or older animals can do well being fed every eight hours. Divide the daily feeding amount into equal portions for each feeding. The amount required should be increased or decreased to meet the individual requirements for each pet. Weigh them daily to assure that they are receiving adequate KMR.
Consult your veterinarian for advice.

Works for me
review by Cuppajoe
KMR is the gold standard for orphan kittens for a good reason. It nourishes them very well. I also use it past the bottle feeding stage because in rescue the kittens are usually so compromised that they benefit from keeping KMR in their diets even after they can eat on their own. Can be mixed for them to lap, or mixed in wet food. I can use it stand-alone, or blend into other formulas. For old or ill cats, KMR is often an excellent supplement to keep them nourished and maintain health at the best level possible. Great stuff. (Posted on 2/1/12)

Great Product and service
review by Glori Watson
My Persian had kittens, and there was one female that she didn't want to nurse. Poor thing. I didn't know what to do, but my vet gave me advice on feeding her and recommended KMR. I gave it to the kitten and also supplemented the mother until she was recovered from giving birth, about six weeks ago. She and all of the kittens are doing well, and you can't even tell the difference anymore with the female from the others. (Posted on 5/24/11)
